February 8-12. "Homecoming"

Student Council members will be selling Valentine's Crushes once again this year. Students may purchase either a Red crush-"I Love You", Purple crush-"Friends" or Orange crush-"I have a crush on you". All crushes cost $.50 each. Insurance to protect the students identity can be purchased for an additional $.50. Crushes will be delivered on Friday Feb. 12th. Any student/parent/teacher who would like to purchase a crush may contact any STUCO member and forms are available in the high school office.

IN CASE OF INCLEMENT WEATHER

If and when classes are cancelled due to inclement weather students should expect any assignment/test will be due on our return to school. For example freshmen Physical Science are scheduled for a Unit 5 test on Friday January 29th. If the forecasts are correct all indications are that we may not be in sesson on Friday. Students understand that their Unit 5 test will be given on the day of our return to classes. With this in mind students are expected to take all study materials/homework assignments home on Thursday January 28th.

Halloween Dance

The annual Halloween Dance, sponsored by STUCO, will be held October 30th 7-9 p.m. Come out and enjoy a night of dancing, games and fun. Prizes will be awarded for Best Dressed, Most Original and Cutest Couple.

Battle of the Belt

BHS Stuco is once again sponsoring the annual BOTB campaign. During this campaign students are
encouraged to Buckle Up. Our campaign began Wed. Oct. 8th with a motivational assembly entitled Fearless. Throughout the next 6 weeks students will receive information, view PSA's and
repeatedly by encouraged and informed about the importance of Buckling Up. Arrive Alive t shirts are once again being made available to the public. Anyone interested may contact a STUCO representative or they may pick up an order form from Mrs. Sanders STUCO sponsor.

End of 1st quarter right around the bend!!!

It's almost impossible to believe but the 1st quarter is nearing an end. Student Council is busy planning the Halloween Dance and our 4th Annual BOTB competition. During the BOTB Competition students are challenged to always wear their seatbelts.

School Year off to a Great Start

The 2009-2010 school year is off to a wonderful start. Progress reports were received by students on Wednesday Sept 2nd. All freshmen students are required to have their progress report signed by a parent or guardian and reports should be returned by Tuesday Sept. 8th.

2nd Semester Begins

Welcome back. The 2nd semester is well under way. An online component has been added to Jr/Sr level science classes. This online course component will familiarize students with the skills they will need to complete any online college course. Nearly all college bound students will find themselves taking online courses at some point during their college career. Online college courses are necessary especially for students that must work while attending college. You can find additional information about the specific online courses in the classroom links.

The Convincer

On Thursday October 9th BHS participated in the Convincer a BOTB activity. Students were able to "ride" the convincer. The Convincer is provided by the Missouri Highway Patrol to simulate a 5mph crash. Our hope is that after riding the convincer students will be "convinced" to buckle up. You can see pictures of students in action on the BHS blog site. A great big Thank You to Sgt. Moreland for spending the day with us.

BOTB-Battle of the Belt

The official 2008-09 BOTB campaign began for BHS on Tuesday morning with a "surprise" seatbelt check. Students at BHS will have the opportunity on 10-09 to ride the "Convincer" provided by the Missouri Highway Patrol. The convincer simulates a car crash at approximately 35 mph. Throughout the six week campaign students will be given information regarding the importance of seatbelts in saving lives. Students will be asked to sign a pledge card saying they will always buckle up when riding in or driving a motor vehicle.

BOTB-Battle of the Belt

Beginning September 15th, BHS will begin competition in the BOTB campaign. BOTB is sponsored by MODOT and the MSHP. During the six week campaign students will be encouraged to always buckle up. The area school that shows the greatest increase in seatbelt usage over the six week campaign has an opportunity to win up to $1000 for their school.

ARRIVE ALIVE

In the upcoming weeks we will begin our annual BOTB (Battle of the Belt) campaign. BOTB is sponsored by the Missouri Dept. of Transportation and the Missouri Highway Patrol. The purpose of the annual campaign is to make teen drivers aware of the dangers of driving without using their seatbelts. Watch for upcoming events and BUCKLE UP.

First Quiz

All classes will be taking a quiz on Friday August 22. The quiz will test students on their understanding on the most common test task words.

First Week of School a Success

The first week of classes went smoothly. We have spent this week getting to know one another and getting organized for the upcoming year. Students completed an informational survey detailing their thoughts and feelings on the general school atmosphere. Students were asked questions regarding what makes learning fun for them. Students were also surveyed for their preferences about working in groups as well as working on projects. All classes have spent time becoming familiar with some common test taking words. Becoming more familiar with these words will help students throughout the school year, during their end of course exams and for while taking the ACT.
